What #57 Limestone is

Three-quarter inch washed angular limestone — the most-ordered material we stock. Sharp edges interlock and stay put under traffic without packing solid. Water moves freely through the stone-to-stone voids, useful for both drainage and surface applications.

Can I use #57 limestone as a driveway on its own?

You can, but it will stay loose and it will spread. #57 has no fines to bind it, so it never firms up. The durable build is 4–6" of compacted crusher run underneath with 2–3" of #57 on top — the base carries the load, the #57 gives you the clean drained surface.

Is #57 limestone the right stone for a French drain?

Yes, it is the standard choice. The washed voids between stones let water move fast, and at ¾" it is small enough to work around most perforated pipe. If you need even more flow or the trench is deep, #4 clean stone moves more water — but #57 handles the majority of residential drains.

How much #57 do I need around a septic field?

Follow the county-approved design — Jefferson County plans usually specify a depth of cover over the laterals, and the inspector checks it. Bring us the spec sheet and we will convert the square footage and depth into tons and truck loads before you order.
