What Pea Gravel is

Small, smooth, naturally rounded stone — typically ⅜" diameter. Drains fast, stays cool underfoot, and has a visual cleanliness that crusher run doesn't. Comfortable for bare feet and pet paws on warm days.

How much pea gravel do I need?

Work in cubic yards: length × width × depth in feet, divided by 27. Pea Gravel runs about 1.30 tons per cubic yard, and our quad-axle trucks haul 35 tons a load. This table gives the coverage for a single cubic yard at common depths.

Is pea gravel good for a dog run?

It is one of the better options. There are no sharp edges, it drains fast so the area does not stay muddy, and waste rinses through instead of sitting on the surface. Put fabric underneath and edge it, or the stone migrates out into the yard over a year.

Why does pea gravel move around so much?

Because it is round — the stones roll past each other instead of locking together. That is the tradeoff for how comfortable it is underfoot. Solid edging on every side and a compacted base under it will hold it in place; without edging it will always creep.

Can I use pea gravel on a driveway?

Only as a thin decorative topping over a properly compacted crusher run base, and expect to rake and top it up. Tires push round stone aside, so a pea gravel driveway with no base under it will develop ruts down to the dirt within a season.
