#4 Clean Stone delivered.
Washed 1½" angular stone with no fines at all. #4 is what you order when drainage volume is the whole point — dry wells, deep French drains, and leach field cover, where #57 would choke or migrate under the flow.

What #4 Clean Stone is
Washed 1½" crushed stone with no fines — just clean angular rock. The larger stone size and absence of fines means the highest drainage rate we carry. Used where #57 would migrate under pressure or where drainage volume demands more open void space.
Also called: #4 stone, 4 clean, 1½" clean stone, dry well rock.
What it’s used for
- French drain & dry well fill
- Leach field cover stone
- Large-diameter pipe bedding
- High-volume drainage trenches
How much #4 clean stone do I need?
Work in cubic yards: length × width × depth in feet, divided by 27. #4 Clean Stone runs about 1.45 tons per cubic yard, and our quad-axle trucks haul 35 tons a load. This table gives the coverage for a single cubic yard at common depths.
| Depth | 1 cubic yard covers | Per 100 sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| 2" | 162 sq ft | 0.6 yd³ · 0.9 tons |
| 3" | 108 sq ft | 0.9 yd³ · 1.3 tons |
| 4" | 81 sq ft | 1.2 yd³ · 1.8 tons |
| 6" | 54 sq ft | 1.9 yd³ · 2.7 tons |
| 12" | 27 sq ft | 3.7 yd³ · 5.4 tons |
Add 10–15% for compaction and waste before you order. The driveway gravel calculator will do the whole thing for you, including how many trucks it takes, and the full materials calculator can size an order from a total quantity instead of dimensions.
